SOCIAL STUDIES AND VOCATIONAL SKILLS EXAMINATION FORMAT FOR PRIMARY SCHOOL STD VII
03 SOCIAL STUDIES AND VOCATIONAL SKILLS
1.0 INTRODUCTION
The format for Social Studies and Vocational Skills has been improved based on the new syllabi for the Social Studies and Vocational Skills of 2016, which came into effect in 2017.
The syllabi addressed both general and specific competencies. The improvements in the format targeted to measure the competencies of the candidates on what they learn from Standard III to VII based on these syllabi.
2.0 GENERAL OBJECTIVES
The examination for Social Studies and Vocational Skills will focus on determining to what extent a candidate can:
2.1 value and protect the environment and resources of the nation;
2.2 value the relationship between people and the environment in the society;
2.3 identify and use opportunities available in his/her environment;
2.4 identify the origin of societies in our nation;
2.5 build foundations for self-reliance;
2.6 be creative; and
2.7 identify opportunities available in the environment.
3.0 GENERAL COMPETENCIES
The examination will measure candidate’s competencies in:
3.1 valuing Tanzanian culture and those of other countries;
3.2 thinking creatively and solve problems;
3.3 respecting one self and others;
3.4 performing patriotic duties; and
3.5 participating in activities which enhance his/her logical and analytical thinking.
4.0 EXAMINATION RUBRIC
The examination for Social Studies and Vocational Skills will have one paper which will be conducted for 1:30 hours and 1:45 hours for candidates with visual impairment.
The paper will consist of two sections A and B with a total of 45 questions.
Section A will consist of questions 1 – 40 which will be answered on the OMR form by using the HB pencil. Section B (questions 41 – 45) will be answered on the second part of the OMR form by using either a blue or black ink pen.
The candidate is required to answer all the questions which will weigh a total of 50 marks. Section A will have 40 multiple-choice questions.
Every question will carry one (1) mark, hence a total of 40 marks in this section.
Section B will have five (5) questions which require short answers. The candidate is required to answer all the questions.
Each question will carry two (2) marks making a total of 10 marks for this section.
5.0 EXAMINATION CONTENT
The competencies to be assessed in the Social Studies and Vocational Skills examination will be as follows:
5.1 Identifying different events occurring in his/her environment.
5.2 Identifying the principles of patriotism in the society.
5.3 Using the knowledge of maps and astronomy in day-to-day life situations.
5.4 Applying economic principles in doing income generating activities.
5.5 Applying good grooming practices.
5.6 Mastering cooking a variety of foods.
5.7 Creating works of art.
5.8 Applying entrepreneurial skills.
