For a question requiring a candidate to demonstrate knowledge of themes/content or Message. A candidate should follow the following key guidelines when answering questions of this type.
1. The candidate must first provide the definition of the key word housed (used) in that question, which must be included in the introduction section. Then indicates the books, if novels or plays will be used to validate his/her arguments, or the poems to be used.
When citing books or poetry, follow proper citation procedures. This means that the title of the book/poetry must be written in capital letters, and if a candidate chooses to write it in small letters, the title must be followed by an underline.
Then, if it’s a novel, give the author’s name, playwright’s name for plays, and poet’s name for poems.
2. Following that, a candidate must begin explaining one book after the other. It is strictly forbidden to base your points on both books because each book must be explained differently.
3. The proper format for answering should be as follows: first, a candidate must give the point, explain its meaning, and demonstrate how such specific point was used in the book, then relate to contemporary society, and finally provide a concluding statement. This must be done for each point.
4. In the case of poetry, a candidate must authenticate his or her arguments by citing verses that prove a given point.
Finally, make certain that your conclusion is relevant to the subject matter.
Once you’ve finished explaining the first book, move on to the next book (novel). You can use phrases like “aside from the above novel, something can be evidenced under…. Alternatively, the novel….. or moving on to another poem, which is…. You can also choose the appropriate style. However, care must be taken to ensure that ideas flow smoothly.
