The National Bureau of Statistics (NBS)
The Data Act of 2015 established the National Bureau of Statistics (NBS) as an independent government agency with the responsibility of giving the public, business community, and government access to official statistics.
The Act also grants NBS the authority to serve as a co-coordinating body for the National Statistical System, ensuring the generation of official data of the highest calibre (NSS).
The Executive Agencies Act of 1997 was utilised to create the National Bureau of Statistics (NBS) as one of the government’s executive agencies on March 26, 1999, before the Statistics Act of 2015 was passed.
VISION: To create a single location where Tanzanian government statistics can be found.
MISSION: To produce excellent official statistics and services that meet local and international stakeholders’ needs for data-driven planning and decision-making.
All official data produced in Tanzania must be gathered, compiled, analysed, and disseminated, and the NBS acts as their central repository.

The United Republic of Tanzania’s government intends to carry out a population and housing census on August 23, 2022.

2. What types of information will the Population and Housing Census of 2022 promptly collect?
