Computer Studies Syllabus
So far you have been learning ICT, which is focused on how to use the computer applications.
In Computer Studies you will learn the theoretical explanations behind these applications.
What is Computer Studies?
Computer Studies focuses on how the computer works and how it is used in society. Practical sessions in computer studies are mostly devoted to programming; here you will learn to create programs using the JAVA language.
Main Sections of the Syllabus:
Computer Applications
This section includes practical knowledge about the Operating system, inputting data into the computer, and common application software such as Spreadsheets, Databases and Internet Explorer.
Computer Hardware
Theoretical information about all the hardware devices that a computer consists or may consist of, including: the CPU, storage devices, input devices and output devices. Here the way data is represented inside the computer and these devices is described.
Computer Systems
Other issues related to the computer system are described here. These include the Operating System, Networks, Systems Analysis and also Roles related to IT.
ICT in Society

This syllabus aims to
stimulate and foster an interest in the use of computers;
develop practical skills in the use of computers;
develop skills in creatively applying information processing technology to problem solving;
provide a broad view of the range and variety of computer systems and applications;
develop the ability to communicate and interpret information and concepts relevant to computing;
introduce students to the fundamental concepts of computer science;
Serve as a basis for further studies in Intermediate and Advanced level in Computing or Information Technology.
